I'm not one to believe in these conspiracy theories. But I find it hard to believe that Congress could come up with a 2000 page Health Care bill so fast. I know it was supposedly written by other people. (Obamas People) But I still have a hard time thinking that it was put together so fast. What if it had been written during the previous year, by Obama's people and taken to congress members before hand. People, like Reid Pelosi Schumer and other far left congress people. On a hope that Obama would be elected and the Dems still controlled congress. They would have the bill ready if things worked out in their favor, Then they could introduce it right away. So it kind of ends up as a pre passed law before the people could really look at it. I don't think they anticipated the uproar that ensued. So they quietly changed gears, And Decided to extend the time line to take effect And modify it to make other people go along with it. They could tweak it over the next couple of years. Right under our noses and we'd never know about it. Remember their trick of using rider bills.And I don't believe they want it to reach the supreme court. Why? Because there is nothing in the constitution that allows congress to force you to purchase something. Unless they can load the court with a bunch of Liberal Judge's. Which worries me.
And if Obama didn't get elected. Simple Fine tune it put it on the shelf. And be patient Like any good hunter knows keep your eye open, your chance will come.

Well, I have done it! I have read the entire text of proposed House Bill 3200: The Affordable Health Care Choices Act of 2009. I studied it with particular emphasis from my area of expertise, constitutional law. I was frankly concerned that parts of the proposed law that were being discussed might be unconstitutional. What I found was far worse than what I had heard or expected.

To begin with, much of what has been said about the law and its implications is in fact true, despite what the Democrats and the media are saying. The law does provide for rationing of health care, particularly where senior citizens and other classes of citizens are involved, free health care for illegal immigrants, free abortion services, and probably forced participation in abortions by members of the medical profession.

The Bill will also eventually force private insurance companies out of business and put everyone into a government run system. All decisions about personal health care will ultimately be made by federal bureaucrats and most of them will not be health care professionals. Hospital admissions, payments to physicians, and allocations of necessary medical devices will be strictly controlled.

However, as scary as all of that is, it just scratches the surface. In fact, I have concluded that this legislation really has no intention of providing affordable health care choices. Instead it is a convenient cover for the most massive transfer of power to the Executive Branch of government that has ever occurred, or even been contemplated. If this law or a similar one is adopted, major portions of the Constitution of the United States will effectively have been destroyed.

The first thing to go will be the masterfully crafted balance of power between the Executive, Legislative, and Judicial branches of the U.S. Government. The Congress will be transferring to the Obama Administration authority in a number of different areas over the lives of the American people and the businesses they own. The irony is that the Congress doesn�t have any authority to legislate in most of those areas to begin with. I defy anyone to read the text of the U.S. Constitution and find any authority granted to the members of Congress to regulate health care.

This legislation also provides for access by the appointees of the Obama administration of all of your personal healthcare information, your personal financial information, and the information of your employer, physician, and hospital. All of this is a direct violation of the specific provisions of the 4th Amendment to the Constitution protecting against unreasonable searches and seizures. You can also forget about the right to privacy. That will have been legislated into oblivion regardless of what the 3rd and 4th Amendments may provide.

If you decide not to have healthcare insurance or if you have private insurance that is not deemed �acceptable� to the �Health Choices Administrator� appointed by Obama there will be a tax imposed on you. It is called a �tax� instead of a fine because of the intent to avoid application of the due process clause of the 5th Amendment. However, that doesn�t work since there is nothing in the law that allows you to contest or appeal the imposition of the tax, it is definitely depriving someone of property without the �due process of law".

So, there are three of those pesky amendments that the far left hate so much out of the original ten in the Bill of Rights that are effectively nullified by this law. It doesn�t stop there though. The 9th Amendment that provides: �The enumeration in the Constitution, of certain rights, shall not be construed to deny or disparage others retained by the people;� The 10th Amendment states: �The powers not delegated to the United States by the Constitution, nor prohibited by it to the States, are preserved to the States respectively, or to the people.� Under the provisions of this piece of Congressional handiwork neither the people nor the states are going to have any rights or powers at all in many areas that once were theirs to control.

I could write many more pages about this legislation, but I think you get the idea. This is not about health care; it is about seizing power and limiting rights. Article 6 of the Constitution requires the members of both houses of Congress to �be bound by oath or affirmation� to support the Constitution. If I was a member of Congress I would not be able to vote for this legislation or anything like it without feeling I was violating that sacred oath or affirmation. If I voted for it anyway I would hope the American people would hold me accountable.

After watching a news segment on the state of Pa. And how they have started drilling natural gas. Land owners are receiving $5,500.00 per acre lease and 20% royalties, They have created 28,000 jobs and hope to add another 98,000 jobs this year. Well that ought to help out tax revenue and not to mention the people in the state will probably get a reduction on their utility bill.As I have stated before this state is a natural gas pocket the whole state no just a small section. And our state legislators, Did what? Banned smoking. Oh yeah these guy's are on the ball. Are these clowns that STUPID? Thousands of people found themselves bunched together inside Newark Liberty International Airport after a security breach prompted the closing of a terminal for several hours Jan. 3, 2010.

It's a tale of shocking ineptitude: CBS 2 has learned a series of missteps unnecessarily added to the mayhem at Newark Liberty International Airport on Sunday. The six-hour delay stranded thousands of people, creating extreme crowding and chaos.

The mistakes made at the airport give new meaning to the term "domino effect." It was a cascading series of missteps that cry out for action.

The sign at the Transportation Security Administration screening post at Newark read: "Premises Under Constant Video Surveillance."

What is should add is: "If We're Lucky."

That's because CBS 2 has learned that when an unidentified man breached a secure area at Newark on Sunday night, delaying thousands of passengers for hours, the TSA cameras weren't working.

That's right � they weren't even recording, sources said, and needed a reboot, which the agency apparently didn't ask for. That set off a chain reaction of even more missteps that caused needless chaos and inconvenience for several thousand hapless passengers.

With the cameras inoperable, the TSA tried to get a second set of surveillance video from Continental Airlines. But the TSA apparently didn't know the correct telephone number and the specific procedures to get the footage. That caused a two hour delay in identifying the intruder and closing the airport to look for him.

When they finally got the footage, they couldn't find the intruder, discovering later that he had slipped out another entrance 20 minutes after he arrived.

"The question I would ask is should there be an independent camera system there. Who should be responsible for the law enforcement?" said Sen. Frank Lautenberg.

Lautenberg is furious about what happened and he's going to hold hearings to demand answers.

"You cannot afford a mistake here anymore than a surgeon in the operating room," he said. "This system was broken."

But that's not all. The Edwardes family of Ontario, Canada may have felt the worst of the domino effect. They were finally flying home on Tuesday after being stranded since Sunday. For them, a 90 minute layover to change planes from San Diego to Ontario turned into a two-and-a-half day delay.

"We were a minute away from boarding," said Terri Edwardes. "We just want to go home."

The family was left to wait for hours and hours with no water, no food, no information about whether their plane would take off, and no hotel. So what did they get from Continental?

"They gave us one of these packages with a toothpaste, and a toothbrush, and hairspray in it. And deodorant," said Jake Edwardes.

Needless to say, there is a lot of blame, and a lot of finger pointing. But as of now, if it were to happen again, there's no guarantee it would be handled smoothly.

Soft Money: It Takes Two Parties to Tango

One of the dirty little secrets about the death of the McCain-Feingold campaign-finance legislation is that both political parties, not just Republicans, killed it.

As their parties' fund-raisers-in-chief in the Senate, neither Democrat Bob Torricelli (NJ) nor Republican Mitch McConnell (KY) wanted to halt the flow of soft money. McConnell has been clear about that, saying publicly that soft money is key to the Republican stranglehold on the Senate. Torricelli's ploy has been more subtle and cynical.

A fund raiser in campaign-reform clothing

This explanation is the only way to understand the startlingly amiable colloquy Torricelli had with his supposed nemesis McConnell in the middle of the debate, where both agreed that a soft-money ban would do more harm than good.

On the face of it, both men were arguing that a simple ban would reduce the amount of money parties would have to spend on challengers and, more centrally, would have the unintended consequence of channeling more big money into issue advocacy by groups other than the political parties. This is a fair point also made by bona-fide reformers like the League of Women Voters. But coming from McConnell and Torricelli, it is disingenuous.

McConnell, we all know, is devoted to protecting the rights of big, special-interest donors to give as much money as they want, and thus is happy to oppose all reform measures and find allies in all corners. As he made clear earlier in the debate, he thinks none of the association today between campaign contributors and Congress is corrupt and, in his heart of hearts, would favor no limits on campaign giving.

If it is possible, Torricelli's actions were even more outrageous than McConnell's words. Ostensibly, Torricelli was pushing for the House-passed version of McCain-Feingold, which would have banned soft money but also would have regulated electioneering via issue ads. But that bill failed to get the 60 votes needed for cloture last year, so McCain and Feingold wanted to focus solely on closing the soft-money loophole.

They figured, as a first step toward more comprehensive reform, that they might get more Republican support and build momentum for further reform efforts later. A pragmatic strategy, it was beginning to bear fruit with the endorsement of Republican Sam Brownback (KS) when Torricelli threw in his monkey wrench of bringing up a bill he knew could not pass.

Why? Apply that old Woodward-and-Bernstein maxim: Follow the money. While soft-money donations to both parties have risen, according to the latest filings with the Federal Election Commission, Democrats are gaining more momentum than their Republican counterparts.

The Democratic love of soft money

In 1994, the parties raised a total of $101.7 million, of which only about $18.8 million was raised by the congressional and senatorial campaign committees. In 1998, soft-money fund raising more than doubled to $224.4 million, and the congressional and senatorial campaign committees raised $92 million of that.

Republicans outraised Democrats overall, an advantage that is not surprising given that they are in power and that they traditionally have been seen as friendlier to business, which provides the overwhelming majority of campaign contributions. But while Democrats are outclassed on the hard-money side of the ledger, they are getting more skilled at cultivating individual soft-money donors. From a strictly pragmatic view, they have more to lose with a simple soft-money ban.

That, reports veteran Washington journalist Elizabeth Drew in her new book, The Corruption of American Politics, is exactly the argument made by Torricelli back in January 1997, when he was the vice chairman of the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee (DSCC), at a closed-door meeting of the Democratic caucus. "There is no financial base for the core issues of the Democratic Party," Torricelli told Drew afterward. "In current American politics you can't survive without a financial constituency [and] � Republicans have a small-donor base. We don't."

Indeed, the DSCC, which Torricelli now heads, has been gaining on McConnell's National Republican Senatorial Committee in the soft-money race. Total soft-money receipts in 1997-98 at Torricelli's committee were up 95% over the previous election cycle, while McConnell's fat cats only chipped in an additional 30%. And in the first six months of this year, Senate Democrats have nearly caught Republicans, pulling in just more than $5 million in soft money, compared with $6.8 million for the GOP.

Democrats in the House leadership have an equal or greater lack of interest in banning soft money. (The irony is that they had the luxury of passing legislation that they knew the Senate would kill.) Now that their party appears on the verge of retaking the majority, soft-money contributions to the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee (DCCC), chaired by Patrick Kennedy (RI), have skyrocketed.

In the first six months of 1999, the DCCC raised $17 million. Some $9 million of that was soft money, a 373% increase compared with the last election cycle and an amount that nearly matched the $9.4 million in soft money raised by the National Republican Congressional Committee during the same period.

Last but not least, we have the rising phenomena of so-called "leadership PACs" -- headed by the top brass of both parties -- that are now knee deep in raising soft money themselves.

Where's the outrage?

There is a deeper truth here: Incumbents in powerful positions in both parties are never going to voluntarily change the rules of a game in which they have learned to prosper.

Do not forget how the Democratic barons of a Democratic-controlled Congress in 1993 told President Clinton to forget his professed commitment to campaign finance reform (with the active support of White House staffers who had cut their teeth working on the Hill). That decision effectively killed the issue when Democrats easily could have enacted the reforms they are now struggling to pass.

The campaign-finance issue as it currently is played in Congress is more of a shell game, meant to fool the people. If real change ever does happen, it will come only from an outraged and mobilized public sick of the self-serving, incumbent-protection racket.

It may be a new year, but congressional Democrats are planning the same old sorts of sleazy tactics in their bid to take over America's health care system. Congressional Republicans, especially in the Senate, should not let them get away with it. Transparency and ethics should be Republican rallying cries, and obstruction on those grounds should be a point of pride.

By now it's almost trite to complain that President Obama repeatedly has broken his campaign pledge to "broadcast [health care] negotiations on C-SPAN so that the American people can see what the choices are." That doesn't make the complaint invalid. For legislation that could so profoundly and personally affect the daily lives of every American, Congress and the White House should be more transparent and more accessible than ever before. Instead, the process has been secretive and sordid throughout.

The House passed its version of the bill on a Saturday night. The Senate held its key procedural vote at 1 in the morning, and then provided a lump of coal in our stockings by forcing full passage of its bill on Christmas Eve. The House leadership banned consideration of all but one amendment not offered by leadership itself - forbidding debate on more than 150 of them - then provided just 24 hours for members to study the bill's final text. The Senate leadership inserted so many tawdry last-minute items that analysts are still finding jokers in the deck 11 days later.

All these shenanigans have driven approval for the government health care bills even lower in public polls than the strong majorities that already opposed them a month ago. Yet that hasn't fazed congressional leaders. Now comes word from multiple sources that not only will Congress refuse to televise the usual Conference Committee to reconcile the two chambers' versions of the bill, but it won't allow a formal conference at all. Instead, a chosen few negotiators will concoct the final version out of sight, without formal rules governing the process and without a single Republican at the table.

WASHINGTON - GOP Chairman Michael Steele thinks Republicans have "screwed up" for the most part in the years since Ronald Reagan was president. And, he adds in an interview on the heels of his new book's release, Republicans won't win back the House in fall elections and might not be ready to lead even if they do.

That forecast of failure sparked a pushback Tuesday at the GOP's own National Republican Congressional Committee, whose aim is to elect Republicans, and delight at its counterpart, the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee.

Asked Monday by talk-show host Sean Hannity if Republicans can regain the House in November, Steele said, "Not this year." He added: "I don't know yet, because I don't know all the candidates yet. We still have some vacancies that need to get filled, but then the question we need to ask ourselves is, if we do that, are we ready?"

In answer to his own question, Steele said: "I don't know. And that's what I'm assessing and evaluating right now. Those candidates who are looking to run have to be anchored in these principles ... because if they don't, then they'll get to Washington, and they'll start drinking that Potomac River water, and they'll get drunk with power and throw the steps out the window."

NRCC spokesman Ken Spain said in response to Steele's comments that recapturing the majority remains a GOP goal. "Independent political analysts and even liberal columnists have stated that Republicans have a very real shot at taking back the majority in 2010," he said in a statement. "Make no mistake about it, we are playing to win."

The DCCC pointed to Steele's comments as further evidence of a civil war within the GOP and party disarray..."

Few Obama administration appointments have been as startling as Education Secretary Arne Duncan�s appointment of Kevin Jennings, the homosexual founder of the Gay, Lesbian and Straight Education Network (GLSEN), to head the Office of Safe and Drug-Free Schools.

Jennings was undoubtedly chosen for this post (which does not require Senate confirmation) because the foundation of the homosexual education agenda is the concept of �safe schools.� However, �safe schools� as GLSEN defines them are like �hate crime laws� for kids. GLSEN�s model legislation would create protected categories like �sex, gender, . . . sexual orientation, [and] gender identity or expression.� (Ironically, they don�t include protection for the factor that GLSEN�s own research shows is the most common reason for harassment of students -- �the way they look or their body size.�) Everyone opposes violence, name-calling, and other forms of bullying. As with �hate crimes,� though, GLSEN�s �safe schools� do not protect everyone equally, but instead single out homosexuals for more protection than others.

Despite this inequity, some might be tempted to support the �safe schools� agenda as long as it is limited to ending bullying, and does not extend to actively affirming or promoting homosexuality. However, in a 1995 speech, Jennings admitted that the rhetoric about �safety� was a political device, saying that it �threw our opponents on the defensive, and stole their best line of attack. This framing short-circuited their arguments and left them back-pedaling.� In a 1997 speech he embraced the idea of actively �promoting� homosexuality, looking forward to a day when �people, when they would hear that someone was promoting homosexuality, would say, �Yeah, who cares?�� And an unsigned article on the GLSEN website in 2000 declared, �The pursuit of safety and affirmation are one and the same goal.�

While Jennings promotes tolerance toward homosexuals, he is unwilling to reciprocate by extending tolerance to those who disagree with him. His memoir, Mama�s Boy, Preacher�s Son, seethes with bitterness toward Southern Baptists, the country�s largest Protestant denomination (within which he was raised). Perhaps that�s why, in a speech in a New York church in 2000, Jennings is reported to have said, �We have to quit being afraid of the religious right. . . . I�m trying not to say, �[F---] �em!� which is what I want to say, because I don�t care what they think! Drop dead!�

He wants homosexuality to be taught in American schools -- in his book Always My Child, Jennings calls for a �diversity policy that mandates including LGBT [lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender] themes in the curriculum.� But he wants only one side of this controversial issue to be aired, and apparently believes in locking sexually confused kids into a �gay� identity. That�s the implication of his declaration, �Ex-gay messages have no place in our nation�s public schools. A line has been drawn. There is no �other side� when you�re talking about lesbian, gay and bisexual students.�

Jennings does not limit his promotion of homosexuality in schools only to high schools or middle schools. He wrote the foreword for a book titled Queering Elementary Education, which includes an essay declaring that ��queerly raised� children are agents� using �strategies of adaptation, negotiation, resistance, and subversion.�

Perhaps the most dramatic illustration, however, of Jennings� unfitness for a �safe schools� post involves an incident when he taught at Concord Academy, a private boarding school in Massachusetts. In his book One Teacher in Ten (the title is based on the discredited myth, now abandoned even by �gay� activist groups, that ten percent of the population is homosexual), he tells about a young male sophomore, �Brewster,� who confessed to Jennings �his involvement with an older man he met in Boston.� But at a GLSEN rally in 2000, Jennings told a more explicit version of �Brewster�s� story. Jennings here quotes the boy and then comments: ��I met someone in the bus station bathroom and I went home with him.� High school sophomore, 15 years old. That was the only way he knew how to meet gay people.�

Did Jennings report this high-risk behavior to the authorities? To the school? To the boy�s parents? No -- he just told the boy, �I hope you knew to use a condom.� Sex between an adult and a young person below the �age of consent� (which varies from state to state) is a crime known as statutory rape, and some states mandate that people in certain professions report such abuse.

I do not know if �Brewster� was below the age of consent, nor whether Jennings was a mandatory reporter or violated mandatory reporting laws. When members of the National Education Association protested an NEA award to Jennings because of this incident, Jennings called the criticism �potentially libelous� and a GLSEN lawyer demanded a retraction. But when officials at Concord Academy -- the school where Jennings had taught -- were asked about the scenario described in one of Jennings� accounts, a school spokesman said that such an incident should be reported.

In any case, public service requires adherence to a higher ethical standard than bare compliance with the law. Instead of veiled threats, Jennings now owes the public a thorough explanation of the �Brewster� incident. Regardless of the law, a 15-year-old who meets sexual partners in a bus station restroom requires more than a condom to be �safe.�

Kevin Jennings has neither the temperament nor the ethical standards needed for public service. His history suggests a commitment to serving only one narrow part of the student population, not all students. He is unfit for the post to which he�s been assigned, and Secretary Duncan should withdraw his appointment at once.

It may be a new year, but congressional Democrats are planning the same old sorts of sleazy tactics in their bid to take over America's health care system. Congressional Republicans, especially in the Senate, should not let them get away with it. Transparency and ethics should be Republican rallying cries, and obstruction on those grounds should be a point of pride.

By now it's almost trite to complain that President Obama repeatedly has broken his campaign pledge to "broadcast [health care] negotiations on C-SPAN so that the American people can see what the choices are." That doesn't make the complaint invalid. For legislation that could so profoundly and personally affect the daily lives of every American, Congress and the White House should be more transparent and more accessible than ever before. Instead, the process has been secretive and sordid throughout.

The House passed its version of the bill on a Saturday night. The Senate held its key procedural vote at 1 in the morning, and then provided a lump of coal in our stockings by forcing full passage of its bill on Christmas Eve. The House leadership banned consideration of all but one amendment not offered by leadership itself - forbidding debate on more than 150 of them - then provided just 24 hours for members to study the bill's final text. The Senate leadership inserted so many tawdry last-minute items that analysts are still finding jokers in the deck 11 days later.

All these shenanigans have driven approval for the government health care bills even lower in public polls than the strong majorities that already opposed them a month ago. Yet that hasn't fazed congressional leaders. Now comes word from multiple sources that not only will Congress refuse to televise the usual Conference Committee to reconcile the two chambers' versions of the bill, but it won't allow a formal conference at all. Instead, a chosen few negotiators will concoct the final version out of sight, without formal rules governing the process and without a single Republican at the table.

Democratic Rep. Henry Waxman of California, chairman of the House Energy and Commerce Committee, candidly told a Jan. 3 home-state Democratic gathering that the sleight-of-hand is intended to enable his colleagues to avoid any more tough votes until the one on final passage. David Dayen of the liberal Web site Firedoglake reported from the meeting that, "this will not be a traditional conference committee, Waxman said, because the motions to select and instruct conferees in the Senate 'would need 60 votes [in the Senate] all over again.'"

Back in October, Rep. Vern Buchanan, Florida Republican, offered this simple resolution: "Resolved, that it is the sense of the House of Representatives that any conference committee or other meetings held to determine the final content of sweeping national health care legislation be held in full public view and not behind closed doors."

If congressional leaders do not abide this simple request, Republicans should bring the whole Senate to a halt. Senate rules provide for so many procedural obstacles, if a determined minority wants to exercise them, that the entire body could be tied up in knots for weeks on end. In the name of open and accountable government, that's what senators should do if the public interest continues to be trampled.

Democrats have now officially begun their auto-destruct sequence for 2010. They may win the battle, but will certainly lose the war.

Despite their claims to the contrary, the way that House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid have handled the healthcare bill has been anything but transparent. And, if the left-wing blogosphere is to be believed, the two congressional leaders intend to keep the deliberations secret as they try to merge the House and Senate versions of the legislation into something that will pass both chambers.

The Talking Points Memo website reported Monday that Democrats in both the House and Senate are saying the process will likely follow the path of the House taking up the Senate-passed legislation, amending it and sending it back to the Senate, which will have to pass it again. "This process cuts out the Republicans," a House Democratic aide told TPM, indicating the congressional majority intended to make sure the Republican minority would "not have a motion to recommit opportunity."

It also, say those who are following the issue, allows Pelosi to avoid having to cut deals with problematic House Democrats like Michigan's Bart Stupak, who has promised to do what he can to scuttle the final bill if it provides for federal funding of abortions.

Henry Waxman, the chairman of the House Energy and Commerce Committee, is saying much the same thing, according to David Dayen at FireDogLake, another prominent left-wing website.

Dayen reported that the powerful California Democrat told constituents he would be coming back to Washington Tuesday to begin negotiations with Senate leaders and the White House about what a final healthcare bill will look like�even though the House doesn't come back into session until January 12.

According to Waxman, the process for moving will not include the standard House/Senate conference committee, because the motions to select and instruct conferees in the Senate "would need 60 votes all over again." Instead, whatever agreements made could be packaged in an amendment to the bills passed by the House and Senate.

By blocking out the Republicans�not to mention House Democrats who object to what the Senate passed�Pelosi and Reid are setting up a protracted game of "ping-pong," in which the legislation goes back and forth from the Senate to the House and back to the Senate again. They may be able to prevail as far as the legislation goes, ultimately, but at enormous cost to their majorities. And that may be the biggest secret of all as far as the healthcare debate is concerned, or at least the one Pelosi and Reid are most concerned about.

Granholm has not accomplished anything more than a bit of union ass kissing in the last 8 years, and there is no indication Cherry would be any better. The Republican field is mixed with unknowns, career politicians, and Bush/Engler clones (Cox). Michigan desperately needs a new direction, and at least with Cherry out of the way, we have a chance of getting it. If Cox would do the same now, we might have something to look forward to.

On the Republican side, the business man from Ann Arbor looks like he might bring something to the table, Bouchard is a career politician who seems to be able to play well with others and has not burned to many bridges, and on the Democratic side, Dillon has advanced some new ideas that don�t curry favor with all the traditional Democratic hacks. It could be we might have a real choice.

The rapid introduction of full body scanners at British airports threatens to breach child protection laws which ban the creation of indecent images of children, the Guardian has learned.

Privacy campaigners claim the images created by the machines are so graphic they amount to �virtual strip-searching� and have called for safeguards to protect the privacy of passengers involved.

Ministers now face having to exempt under 18s from the scans or face the delays of introducing new legislation to ensure airport security staff do not commit offences under child pornography laws.

They also face demands from civil liberties groups for safeguards to ensure that images from the 80,000 scanners, including those of celebrities, do not end up on the internet. The Department for Transport confirmed that the �child porn� problem was among the �legal and operational issues� now under discussion in Whitehall after Gordon Brown�s announcement on Sunday that he wanted to see their �gradual� introduction at British airports.

So I know this has nothing to do with politics but I'm gonna be taking a job in Upper Sandusky this fall and reading up on the city I see not many black people live there. I was just wondering why and if moving there would be a mistake? I'm not racist at all I get along with all, I'm just concerned being that I will definately be a minority there and not sure if I'll be welcomed/safe. Please be honest and respectful in answering me. Thanks

You sound like a regular person trying hard to make it during a difficult time. I'm not unsympathtic to the problems you're struggling with. Including health care.

The problem I have with your post is the fact you obviously don't know what you're talking about. You've bought into the anger the libloons have been selling.

Remember when it started? The health care issue? It was about curbing the cost of health care. Then, the dems decided they'd have a better chance of capitalizing on anger directed at the "rich" insurance companies. So then "health care reform" morphed into an effort to give "free" health care insurance to everyone.

But as I indicated in my previous post, the dems are flat out liars with their claims. Health care companies are not the cash cows the dems are trying to portray. The private companies are not rejecting claims willie nillie. Medicare rejects more claims.

You need to educate yourself on this issue if you want to learn what the real solutions are to solving the problem. Repeating claims that ceo's are earning $100,000 per hour just prove that you've bought into libloon insanity. Stop and think when you hear that kind of crap. If you did, you'd know that $100,000 per hour equals more than $200 million dollars per year. That's 10 times what the top health care ceo's earn. I'm not saying $20 million might not be excessive, but hey, it's par for the course in today's corporate world. It's not the root cause of the problem, though.

Why don't you direct some of that anger towards the lawyers who sue and win jackpot jury awards of $100 million? Who do you think pays? Insurance companies. And maybe then you'd ask why the dems have zero, zip, nada in tort reform in their "health care reform" legislation.

And you might look at articles that tell us how much we all pay for 'defensive medicine'. The cost we pay for doctors ordering tests that we probably don't need, but are done just to help protect themselves from greedy lawyers.

If you want stuff fixed, I'm with you. The problem is that Obamacare does nothing to fix problems. It's just going to create a huge, expensive bureaucracy that's going to cost trillions of dollars over the years to come. And it will bankrupt America while doing nothing to fix the problem that it was supposed to fix.

Hello,
I never said that I like what has been thrown down our throat. What I said is something needs to be done.When a family of 4 cost 900or more a month is a little steep. Most businesses do not cover the cost of health care anymore and are dropping the wages of their workers.Who can afford it? How much will it cost in the future?
I like many work my a-- off and still cannot afford gas bills, the cost of living, a house payment, and then the cost of health care. I am not a cell phone totting free spending idiot either. My household has one phone that cost 55 dollars a month. My children do not carry phones. I believe this is only the first step in the change. I welcome any change that hopefully some day will get the cost of health care down to reasonable pricing.
As for what other companies make who cares? I am not talking about them! I am talking about ceo's in some of these health care galamorites make 100, 000 DOLLARS AN HR. THAT IS INSANE. THE WAY THEY MAKE THAT MONEY IS BY DENYING YOU THE PERSON WHO PAYS THE PRICE THE HEALTH CARE YOU TRULY DESERVE. THE ONLY WAY THEY MAKE MONEY IS BY DENYING YOUR CLAIMS!

"I don't know whether it's good or bad but it must be better because what we've got now is bad". That's it? That's how you rate the crap they're trying to lay on us. (Of course the 'bad ' system we've got now doesn't require people to buy health care insurance or risk a fine or jail. But you think that's an improvement?)

WASHINGTON (AP) - Quick quiz: What do these enterprises have in common? Farm and construction machinery, Tupperware, the railroads, Hershey sweets, Yum food brands and Yahoo? Answer: They're all more profitable than the health insurance industry. In the health care debate, Democrats and their allies have gone after insurance companies as rapacious profiteers making "immoral" and "obscene" returns while "the bodies pile up."

Ledgers tell a different reality. Health insurance profit margins typically run about 6 percent, give or take a point or two. That's anemic compared with other forms of insurance and a broad array of industries, even some beleaguered ones.

Profits barely exceeded 2 percent of revenues in the latest annual measure. This partly explains why the credit ratings of some of the largest insurers were downgraded to negative from stable heading into this year, as investors were warned of a stagnant if not shrinking market for private plans.

Insurers are an expedient target for leaders who want a government-run plan in the marketplace. Such a public option would force private insurers to trim profits and restrain premiums to compete, the argument goes. This would "keep insurance companies honest," says President Barack Obama.

The debate is loaded with intimations that insurers are less than straight, when they are not flatly accused of malfeasance.

They may not have helped their case by commissioning a report that looked primarily at the elements of health care legislation that might drive consumer costs up while ignoring elements aimed at bringing costs down. Few in the debate seem interested in a true balance sheet.

But in pillorying insurers over profits, the critics are on shaky ground. A look at some claims, and the numbers:

THE CLAIMS

_"I'm very pleased that (Democratic leaders) will be talking, too, about the immoral profits being made by the insurance industry and how those profits have increased in the Bush years." House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., who also welcomed the attention being drawn to insurers'"obscene profits."

_"Keeping the status quo may be what the insurance industry wants their premiums have more than doubled in the last decade and their profits have skyrocketed." Maryland Rep. Chris Van Hollen, member of the Democratic leadership.

_"Health insurance companies are willing to let the bodies pile up as long as their profits are safe." A MoveOn.org ad.

THE NUMBERS:

Health insurers posted a 2.2 percent profit margin last year, placing them 35th on the Fortune 500 list of top industries. As is typical, other health sectors did much better - drugs and medical products and services were both in the top 10.

The railroads brought in a 12.6 percent profit margin. Leading the list: network and other communications equipment, at 20.4 percent.

HealthSpring, the best performer in the health insurance industry, posted 5.4 percent. That's a less profitable margin than was achieved by the makers of Tupperware, Clorox bleach and Molson and Coors beers.

The star among the health insurance companies did, however, nose out Jack in the Box restaurants, which only achieved a 4 percent margin.

UnitedHealth Group, reporting third quarter results last week, saw fortunes improve. It managed a 5 percent profit margin on an 8 percent growth in revenue.

Van Hollen is right that premiums have more than doubled in a decade, according to a Kaiser Family Foundation study that found a 131 percent increase.

But were the Bush years golden ones for health insurers?

Not judging by profit margins, profit growth or returns to shareholders. The industry's overall profits grew only 8.8 percent from 2003 to 2008, and its margins year to year, from 2005 forward, never cracked 8 percent.

The latest annual profit margins of a selection of products, services and industries: Tupperware Brands, 7.5 percent; Yahoo, 5.9 percent; Hershey, 6.1 percent; Clorox, 8.7 percent; Molson Coors Brewing, 8.1 percent; construction and farm machinery, 5 percent; Yum Brands (think KFC, Pizza Hut, Taco Bell), 8.5 percent.

Or not. Often, it's just used as another smear of conservatives because libloons like to portray themselves as holier than thou. Look at the dustup when Rush Limbaugh wanted to buy into the NFL. I LISTENED TO RUSH FOR OVER 2 YEARS AND HE IS JUST A OPPORTUNIST .

Look this is what needs to be done first. These 6 things would fix America.
1- DRILL FOR OIL- in ALaska, the gulf of Mexico, and under the ground in states that have it.-
IT WOULD PAY FOR OUR CHILDREN'S SCHOOLING AND HEALTH CARE. AND HAVE ALOT LEFT OVER. WE HAVE MORE OIL THAN THE MIDDLE EAST.WE KEEP THE PROCEEDS NOT A CORPORATION.
2-ABOLISH ALL LOBBYIST- How can the needs of the average American be put ahead of corporations and organizations who pay millions to get our senators and congressmen to vote in their favor. And guess what it is legal.
3- ENACT THE FAIR TAX- A retail tax of 15% would cover all our governments's expenditures and some. Not only that could you imagine how fast our manufacturing sector would come flying back if they only had to pay tax on their supplies. How much money would we save alone in not paying the irs. And all illegals would also be paying tax.
4- HAVE FREE COLLEGE FOR ALL - If you cannot afford a university like Michigan, or Harvard, or any other place of higher education then our government should step in and send you to a community college. Is India and other 3rd world countries better than us? They send their children to college when they can't afford it and then they become Dr.'s over here. After all like I said the oil we drill for will pay for it.

You are right. I am racist. In the broadest sense, we are all racists, even minorities. It is completely natural to gravitate to people who look and act like ourselves.

Someday, we may live in a world where color distinctions don't matter. I would like to see it realized by my children's lifetime, but that is very optimistic.

I was born white. My family has lived in Farmington for three generations. I never knew any minorities growing up and had no education concerning them. All I knew about minorities was what I heard and saw from family, friends, and TV.
YES THE INFAMOUS TV,I KNEW PEOPLE FROM FARMINGTON AS I GREW UP IN THE AREA AS WELL. BUT I HAVE BEEN AROUND MANY DIFFERENT CULTURES AND PEOPLE AND I ALSO WATCHED TV AND I AM ALSO WHITE, SO RACISM MAY BE INHERENT.

My racism was born out of ignorance. The people I knew and trusted persuaded me that white people were better than minorities and for my formative years, I believed them entirely. When I joined the Army, I met many minority people. some were stereotypical, others were not. I was stereotypical of a white young male, so who was I to judge?
I LIKE THIS STATEMENT. THOUGH MANY WILL STILL WANT TO FEEL SUPERIOR BECAUSE THEY ARE WHITE.

My time in the Army taught me that the information I was taught about minorities was wrong. It is better to judge people on their own merits and try to look past our differences. I now try to look at people as a human being first and overcome my racially biased tendencies.
Will I ever overcome them altogether? No. The damage is too deep.
Rather than being someone I am not, I try to temper my initial thoughts with a counter balance of reasonable skepticism and make sure I never pass my flaws to my children.

what happened? What did we get? Do u really know? How much will health care cost now? All I know is health care for a family was costing as much or more than their house payment. Something had to be done. Is it right ? I don't know I didn't read the whole thing. Is there a death panel?. Probably the same as your health care provider now. All I know is I don't trust a company who makes money by not funding my surgery. That makes money by denying my claim. Did you know that some of the ceo's in these health care glamorites make more than $100,000 an hr. And you thought athlete's made some cash eh? So to tell ya the truth I don't think the right thing was done, but I am glad to see something be done. I think more needs to be done. All I hear about is the cost of it. What would the cost be if we didn't do nothing? How much would your insurance cost in 10 years. Who could afford it ? Which companies would offer it? Who offers it now? Who could afford to offer it then? Something had to be done! I hope and pray more is done in the future. I hope we find the mistakes in this bill and fix them. No one should be forced to have insurance, no illegal should get insurance, and all should be covered.

You are right. I am racist. In the broadest sense, we are all racists, even minorities. It is completely natural to gravitate to people who look and act like ourselves. I control such a base instinct as racism the same way I control all other base instincts.

Someday, we may live in a world where color distinctions don't matter. I would like to see it realized by my children's lifetime, but that is very optimistic.

I was born white. My family has lived in Farmington for three generations. I never knew any minorities growing up and had no education concerning them. All I knew about minorities was what I heard and saw from family, friends, and TV.

My racism was born out of ignorance. The people I knew and trusted persuaded me that white people were better than minorities and for my formative years, I believed them entirely. When I joined the Army, I met many minority people. some were stereotypical, others were not. I was stereotypical of a white young male, so who was I to judge?

My time in the Army taught me that the information I was taught about minorities was wrong. It is better to judge people on their own merits and try to look past our differences. I now try to look at people as a human being first and overcome my racially biased tendencies.
Will I ever overcome them altogether? No. The damage is too deep.
Rather than being someone I am not, I try to temper my initial thoughts with a counter balance of reasonable skepticism and make sure I never pass my flaws to my children.

I am not pretending to be better than you. We all have our own time of understanding. The difference between you and me is only that I am a few steps down the road on my journey, but wanting to talk about racism is your first step. Congrats on your starting that journey and I wish you many more.
