Two blocks from the house Alhambra dead ends into the Gulf of Mexico and wonderful sandy beaches. If you are interested in more people watching, the Public Beach is just a short walk from the end of Alhambra. Free yoga is a big hit every morning except Sundays on the beach near the Public Beach Pavilion.
The quaint little town of Venice is 5 blocks from the house. There are all sorts of small restaurants, Greek, Italian, Irish, seafood (inside dining and outside dog friendly), wine bars, boutique shops, soda fountain, shell shops, ice cream, books, and more. Further, the Venice Theatre and Gazebo Park (weekly concerts) are right downtown across from the shops.
There are free tennis and basketball courts right downtown on Venice Ave. The South Jetty is a nice bike ride, and Sharkey’s on the Pier is 2 ˝ miles to the south. On the water, the tiki hut is a great place for sunsets, music, and a glass of wine, or to watch the fishermen on the pier land a big one.

We took my parents for their 40th wedding anniversary and our 2 girls who were 8 and 10 at the time and the sleeping arrangements worked well.
The resort is on the ocean side not the gulf. You walk from the hotel out to the pools and right out to the ocean. The ocean side is so much more beautiful.
It’s easy to get to and from the airport – English is spoken. There are safes for valuables and the staff couldn’t be more helpful.
It is very easy to get around the area. There are taxis, rental cars and buses. The buses are inexpensive and stop often by the hotel.
There are side trips to Isla Mujeres where we took a ferry to the island and hired a small boat from the fishermen’s alliance. The fisherman took us snorkeling right off the boat; we fished for grouper and then went to a part of the island where the fisherman cooked our catch for us.
We took a bus to Chicken Itza an inland area of Mayan civilizations and ruins. There are many side trips the hotel can help you secure.
The resort is very accommodating and has something for all age groups. My daughter and her college roommates spent a week there during the Christmas holidays and enjoyed the tours, swimming with the dolphins, and the night life and felt very safe.

All of the shops, bars/grills, and restaurants are well within walking distance (3-4 regular city blocks). There are 3 outdoor bars/grills on the river. One has live entertainment. Another is on an historic River Boat (casual outdoor bar/grill top deck, more formal, somewhat finer dining below). There is a bar/grill with KARAOKE on Fri/Sat. The marina is only 4 blocks away and they have a sunset dinner cruise and fishing charters.
It is 5 blocks to Kid’s Corner and 4 blocks from the public beach on Lake Michigan (which also has a play lot). Besides restaurants, pubs and grills downtown and on the river, there is a Dairy Queen, 2 other ice cream shops and a Quizno’s all downtown. There are also many free activities from the city for children and families. There is a movie theatre only 4 blocks away which only charges $5.50 for an adult and pop/popcorn have small town prices. Because this is a resort beach town, they do cater to families and play family-friendly movies, and they usually run 4 movies at a time.
There is also HIGH SPEED WIRELESS INTENET AND CABLE/DVD in the living room. All cookware, dishes, and linens are provided (except beach towels). We put in a 75 gallon hot water heater, so there are no problems with large family parties. Besides having beds for 21 people, the rooms are large enough and will accommodate air mattresses if your party grows (which usually happens once everyone finds out you are going to South Haven!).

Treetops Sylvan Resort, in the heart of Northern Michigan's snowbelt, is a perfect family getaway.
Treetops is located just outside the Alpine Village of Gaylord. It receives an annual snowfall of 175 inches, which provides the ideal setting for fantastic Alpine and Nordic skiing.
Nineteen downhill runs wind their way through the majestic hardwood forest that covers the 400-acre winter park.
Snowboarders are welcome at Treetops. They are allowed on the entire ski area and have a half-pipe for their own private use.
