Position Overview
The Scrap Scale Associate plays a key role in evaluating, weighing, and processing incoming scrap materials. This position combines scale operations, material grading, and customer interaction. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, comfortable in a fast-paced environment, and has a strong understanding of scrap materials and pricing.
Key Responsibilities
Weigh and process inbound and outbound scrap loads using scale systems
Inspect, identify, and grade ferrous and non-ferrous materials
Accurately input transactions, weights, and pricing into system software
Issue scale tickets and payment documentation
Operate a forklift to move, stage, and organize materials safely
Communicate with customers and drivers to ensure efficient processing
Coordinate with yard staff to verify materials and resolve discrepancies
Maintain accurate records for reporting and auditing
Assist with directing traffic and maintaining safe flow through the yard
Provide excellent customer service while maintaining speed and accuracy
Follow all safety, environmental, and company policies
Qualifications
Certified Forklift Operator (required)
1–3 years of experience in scrap metal, recycling, logistics, or industrial operations preferred
Strong knowledge of ferrous vs. non-ferrous materials (or willingness to learn quickly)
High attention to detail and accuracy in data entry and transactions
Basic computer skills and experience with POS or scale systems
Strong communication and customer service skills
Ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment
Reliable, punctual, and team-oriented
Preferred Experience
Previous scale house or weighmaster experience
Familiarity with scrap pricing and material grading
Cash handling and transaction processing experience
Experience working in outdoor industrial environments
Pass pre-employment screening, health assessment and drug screen
