After snapping the stylus into the cartridge body, I set it up and played one track as a test, then removed the cartridge from the tonearm.
To my ears, this cartridge sounds so much better than the Ortofon Reds, Blues, and Silvers. It has the unfatiguing warmth of some of the Grados I’ve heard, but with more refined high-end shimmer… cymbals sound so good! Kick drum has both definition and weight.
I did not cut away the body of the cartridge, primarily because I find the AT stylus guard to be superior to the Clearaudio stylus guard (which will be included in the sale). But, if so desired, one could easily flip the cartridge on it’s “back” and cut away to accommodate the Clearaudio stylus guard - see borrowed pics.
The retail price for this cartridge was $295.
