How this wooden gift keepsake/art box survived for so long s beyond me.
The box measures 12 inches long, 9 inches wide, and 4 inches deep. There are a few minor surface scratches on top. There’s a slight crack on the bottom, but it has no effect on the sturdiness of the box. The bottom seems to have some remnants of paper, possibly some kind of wallpaper. The front, back, and sides are in very good shape.
I was recently informed that several felt dividers that the original dividers that separated an ink well from the pens had been removed—possibly by Annie. The felt pad was used to support paper to write or draw on.. Many thanks to the person who provided this information.
The gift box has its original hardware, including a key.
Inside, there’s a felt pad that’s in good shape and flips up and over for more added access below. Two longer dividers and a smaller one are also inside.
What makes this so special is the bronze engraved tag on the top which reads “Annie Dec. 25, 1871.”
