In 1937, The Christian Science Monitor hired the famed artist, Alonzo C. Webb to design an 8 page publication celebrating the coronation of George VI and Elizabeth.
The 8 pages are beautifully lithographed on heavier stock paper.
The front cover has a Coat of Arms and at the bottom “God Save King George.” Also on the front page is a message to the people from The Archbishop of Canterbury.
As you can see from the photos, this was a special and very limited edition. It’s numbered “999.”
Page two has a spread on the Coronation Chair and The Stone of Scone. Page three has a photograph of King George surrounded by artwork.
The two middle pages are spectacular, a two page map of The British Empire with quotes at the bottom from John Milton and Ralph Waldo Emerson. The artwork is signed by Webb at the bottom.
Page six has photos and artwork of George’s two daughters while page seven is devoted to George’s wife, Queen Elizabeth Angela Marguerite.
The back page focuses of the duties of the King and was also designed by A.C. Webb.

As you can see from the photos, this 8 page piece is more artistic than informative. It has all its original gold leaf paint from the lithographed process.
