I’m old enough to remember when President Kennedy was assassinated. We were all sent home from school early and everyone in the neighborhood closed their curtains to watch one of the three T.V. networks.
This complete newspaper has three sections. Section A focuses on the national news. The front page shows a photo of VP Johnson being sworn in along with a separate photo of JFK.
Pages 2 and 3 have more reporting on the assassination. Page 4 has an entire page about the President’s accomplishments. Page 5 has many photos of JFK’s past.
The rest of Section A is about the local reaction to the assassination.
Section B has “business as usual” stories and ads, along with a great Classifieds section (check out the prices!).
In Section C, Sports, there’s a front page article “Sports Loses a Friend,” regarding the President’s death. Also on the front Sports page is an article announcing that Bill Ford will be the new owner of the Lions. Also, there’s a photo of M.S.U.’s Sherman Lewis holding four footballs.
There’s an article about the day’s upcoming Big Ten title game that day between M.S.U. and Illinois. Governor Romney wanted to either cancel or postpone the game, but the game went on.
This complete newspaper from 62 years ago is in really good shape.
