Cushing’s Perfection Dye works started in 1881 by Wainwright Cushing in Foxcroft, Maine. A factory was built in 1892. After that, sales took off nationwide and internationally.
This rare dye order form was from two years before the factory was built, dated 1890.
The order form measures 7 x 9 1/4 inches and has two punched holes near the top for orders to be placed by the company. The form is done in a very fancy script and has a blank for customers filling out the exact dollars and cents for the order.
At the top of the order form are instructions for the customer to write out the specific dyes listed in the company’s catalogue followed by their shipping address.
I’ve included a full 10-cent unopened package of Cushing’s Turkey Red dye.
I’ve seen plenty of these packets over the years, but never an order form that pre-dates the company’s factory.
