In 1888, the DeLaval Company began making cream separators in the U.S. Local DeLaval dealers were given promotional reference booklets to pass out to customers.
In this case, the local dealer was the Galva Creamery Co. with locations in Missouri, Illinois, and Minnesota.
The booklet is 48 pages long and has information on the following areas (among others):
—Making cheese and better cream cheese
—How the cream separator works
—Good eating habit for children
—Proper milking
—Fishermen facts
—Pasture management and rotation
—Judging the ages of horses and cattle by teeth
—Making extra income from trapping
The booklet measures 8. X 5 1/4 inches and has a small string loop in the upper left corner for hanging.
Unlike a lot of other promotional almanacs and yearbooks, this one has loads of useful information—a lot of it still applicable over 80 years later.
As you can see from the photos, this booklet is in great shape and probably never used.
