The Patio Grill was located on 21931 Michigan Avenue in Dearborn and sold its building and business to Kiernan’s Steakhouse in 1965. The eight packs of matches pictured from the Patio Grill are probably from the later 1950s, judging from the business phone number (LO-55711). The back of the match cover states “It isn’t a meal without good coffee.” On the very top of the outside matchbook is an advertisement for Free Parking. Inside the cover is another ad for catering and contacting Hal Cooper.
The Dearborn Inn has a clearer history, beginning in 1931 on the Ford grounds. I have ten packs of matches from the Dearborn Inn, once again probably from the late 50s. The cover has a picture of a coach lantern, which fits the Inn image. Nine of the ten Dearborn Inn matchbooks have the full title “The Dearborn Inn Colonial Homes and Motor House.” On the top of one of the matchbooks is advertised “ Large Heated Pool Two Tennis Courts,” while the others advertise “Large Heated Pool Championship Putting Green.”
As you can see from the photos, most of the matchbooks are full.
