I was a little kid when my dad would take me to the Olympia to watch Terry Sawchuk (stand up goalie with no mask), Alex Delvecchio, Bill Gadsby, Marcel Pronovost, and—of course—Gordie Howe.
Montreal won the Stanley Cup that year over Chicago in 7 games, 4-0. Some of the Montreal standouts were Jean Beliveau, Ralph Backstrom, and Jean-Claude Tremblay.
What’s so interesting about his program is that Red Berenson, the eventual beloved Red Wing and U of M hockey coach play for the Canadiens that year.
This program is from the Feb. 23, 1964 game at the Olympia, with Detroit beating Montreal that day 3-2.
Sid Abel, a great Red Wing player in his own right, coached the Wings that year.
