Here’s a real blast from the past: two dealership catalogs from Ford and two from Chevy.
—1964 Ford
—1970 Ford Pickups
—1973 Chevy Vega
—1979 Chevy Camaro
The ’64 Ford brochure shows the many options buyers had back then for “family” cars: the Galaxie (2, 4 doors hardtop or 2 door convertible); the Custom 500 Sedan; and the Country Squire station wagon. In 1964, Ford offered 5 different engines: the 233 V-6; the 289 (great engine); the 352 and 390 for T-Birds; and the iconic 427.
The 1970 Ford Trucks catalog featured the F-150 (Basic and Sport Edition); the F-250 (for Farm and Contractor use; and the F-350 for hauling large loads or trailers.
The 1973 Vega catalog is a real hoot because the car had to be one of the biggest pieces of s**t ever produced, right along Chrysler’s K-car. The Vega’s standard engine pumped out a whopping 72 hp, not something you want to take on hilly roads.
The 1979 Camaro sales brochure shows the four Camaro styles available that year: the Z-28; the Berlinetta; the Rally Sport; and the Sport Coupe. I owned a Z-28 in the 70s with a 350. It was fast—very fast—and it could hug the road with its low profile.
All four catalogs are in pretty goods shape, except for the occasional mark or crease. They’re all really colorful and have some great nostalgic photos on the pages.
