This vintage Challanger Jazz Bass is from the late 70's (1977 as per serial number). Ibanez was in the high quality height of the “Lawsuit Era,” during which time Japanese made replicas that were usually better than the instruments that inspired them.
This is a fine Fender 70's copy like the Fender 72 Geddy Lee bass. The Japan "Fenders" were made much better than the sloppy Fenders of that era....very nice bound neck/big inlays, neck pockets are tighter and it is not a back breaker as the late 70's Fenders.
This is a nice playing original body/neck with some very positive Bad-Azz upgrades like the BadAss II bridge and Seymour Duncan pu's (I bought it this way years ago.. I am not sure what SD's they are) and the body was refinished and has rear scratches and dings. The upgrades have made this a vintage high performance jazz bass. Killer playing and sounding jazz bass by any standards. I always meant to get a Tort or Nlack (as orig) pickguard..I will buy one as a This late 70's (1977 as per serial number) Ibanez is from height of the “Lawsuit Era,” during which time Japanese made replicas that were usually better than the instruments that inspired them.
