I'm a 35-year-old professional trans guy (FTM) and I am looking for a short-term (3-6 months) subletter following the end of a long-term relationship. I own a historic home on the East side of Detroit, with 3 bedrooms. You could pick between the larger room with a closet or smaller room without.
I am not ready for a long-term commitment at this time, as I am going through a breakup, but my house is too large not to share, and having a little bit of help with basic household chores and bills would be supportive. I work a lot and am not incredibly social, but I do like to know my roommates, have at least a quick weekly check-in to make sure we both feel good about the living situation, or have a built-in space to bring up any issues, and I also enjoy a person who occasionally would be interested in cooking a meal or watching something together, but zero pressure for that!
I have one dog who is a well-behaved rescue pitbull (she has had a year of professional training and is friendly to all she meets), and I'm also on a waiting list to get a service dog (I have invisible disabilities), so there would be 1-2 well-behaved dogs in the house, so not ideal for someone with pets. I am open to someone with an older child or teen, but prefer not to live with an infant or young toddler.
Rent is flexible, as I'd like to help someone out who needs a safe place to stay, but do need a little financial help as well. My thinking is to ask $500 for the larger room, or if you choose the smaller one, I could go as low as $400/month. This would include heat, electricity, water, and internet.
I'm a social worker / therapist and tend to be on the quiet side. Sometimes I listen to music or a movie in my room, but nothing too loud. I'm not into parties, although I sometimes have meetings at my house (I'm a community organizer), but this is not frequent, and you would always have advance notice. Most days, I work a decent chunk of time (sometimes from home, otherwise I leave and go to my office space) and then spend the rest of the evening in my room relaxing or doing lite housework.
I'm not into drugs, but I don't mind if you do them outside the house. Modest alcohol / marijuana use is okay. If you smoke, I prefer for you to do so outside or out of the window of your personal bedroom, because I am an asthmatic.
